Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to head to the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Fans can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
